Whenever bad weather is predicted to arrive, District staff members are up early and out on the roads. Beginning at 2:30 or 3 a.m., Transportation, Maintenance, and District team members are driving the entire District, checking road conditions to ensure they are safe and passable. We also utilize our 24-hour alarm response team. They work throughout the night and update us of any worsening weather conditions across the District. We recognize conditions can differ drastically from Redwood Road up to the foothills of Herriman. In addition to actually driving the streets, we monitor the National Weather Service and local news broadcasts at least 24 hours before predicted storms.
All of this information is provided in a report shared with the Superintendent by 5:30 a.m. With all factors considered, a decision is made on whether to keep schools open, closed or have a late start. If it is decided to close schools or have a late start, we begin messaging parents immediately, posting information on the website and social media and contacting local news stations. We make a tremendous effort to ensure that all students and staff can make it to our buildings safely.
