Public Education Budget Break Down

CapitolWe would like to thank our lawmakers for their hard work and support during the 2016 legislative session. The session resulted in an overall increase to public education funding 5.8%. Here are a few highlights of where the money will go:

  • 3% for All Students – A 3% WPU increase benefits all Utah public school students and it adds up to $92 per student.
  • For Charter School Students – Charter schools receive the 3% WPU increase, plus $20 million in targeted funding.
  • Growth in Student Enrollment – $94 million funds the 9,700 new students expected in 2016-17.
  • Teacher Supply Funding – $6 million allocated for school supplies to help teachers in the classroom.
  • Technology for Selected Students – A $15 million technology grant program benefits students in participating schools.
  • Arts Funding – A $5.7 million Beverely Taylor Sorenson grant program benefits students in participating schools.
