We would like to thank our lawmakers for their hard work and support during the 2016 legislative session. The session resulted in an overall increase to public education funding 5.8%. Here are a few highlights of where the money will go:
- 3% for All Students – A 3% WPU increase benefits all Utah public school students and it adds up to $92 per student.
- For Charter School Students – Charter schools receive the 3% WPU increase, plus $20 million in targeted funding.
- Growth in Student Enrollment – $94 million funds the 9,700 new students expected in 2016-17.
- Teacher Supply Funding – $6 million allocated for school supplies to help teachers in the classroom.
- Technology for Selected Students – A $15 million technology grant program benefits students in participating schools.
- Arts Funding – A $5.7 million Beverely Taylor Sorenson grant program benefits students in participating schools.
