The Utah 2018 Legislative Session begins on Monday, January 22, with a number of bills that will be debated impacting education.
The Jordan School District Board of Education has determined priorities they would like lawmakers to address. Here is a summary.
- High Quality Teachers – Student learning is our highest priority. We recognize that our teachers are the primary influence in successful students. We are continuing to look at teacher compensation to further develop a system to reward quality teachers.
- Technology – Help us improve our digital learning environment by increasing funding for technology including professional development and technical support.
- Classroom Funding – We want to get funding into the classroom where it can best impact student learning.
- Additional Psychologists and Counselors – Support mental health initiatives for students by funding additional psychologists and counselors in our elementary schools.
- Equalization – Support equalization legislation that creates greater property tax equity throughout the state to help all children.
