Over the last three years patrons have asked us to take a closer look at how schools are built in the District and to reduce building costs. This has happened thanks to the hard work of several stakeholder committees along with District personnel. Now, two new elementary schools are currently under construction using a modified floor plan. This floor plan will cost 17 percent less than previous elementary schools, without compromising instructional space for students.
Our facilities team worked with architects to modify an existing floor plan design, owned by Jordan School District, to reduce common area space while only eliminating one kindergarten classroom. The new single-story schools will have 35 classrooms and be approximately 78,500 square feet in size. Blackridge, the last new elementary school we opened, was 93,000 square feet in size
The new South Jordan elementary school is located at approximately 10200 S. 5150 West and the Herriman elementary site is located at approximately 12420 S. 5600 West. Both schools are scheduled to open in the 2017-18 school year. Here is a look at the floor plan.
