A students grabs a cup of fresh fruit off a lunch counter. Five Jordan School District Elementary Schools received funding through the ‘Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program’ administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The ‘FFVP’ program provides free fresh fruits and vegetables to all children at elementary schools during the school day. The goal of the FFVP is to introduce children to fresh fruits and vegetables, to include new and different varieties, and to increase overall acceptance and consumption of raw, unprocessed produce among children. The program also encourages healthier school environments by promoting nutrition education.

The District was awarded a total of $141,268 for the 2019-2020 school year. The five elementary schools that received the grant are; Columbia, Heartland, Majestic, Oquirrh and Westvale Elementaries. Students will receive fresh fruits and vegetables at least twice a week during the school day as well as an educational lesson on the produce they are eating.
